Paul Barlow: the word ‘snippet’ is good, I often think of the works as ‘snippets’ or ‘bits’ like parts of a whole but also a whole in themselves, something like fractals in nature.

.•.•.•.•.•.•The short one “.•.•” could be the base of the title for the paintings, then it gets longer and more complex as they go on, like a growth from its starting point, that mutates outwards.
Materially I also think about the work being pushed into something very particular and surprising, this idea of the ‘superfluid’, as if the materiality of the paintings gets pushed into this super state and superfluid that goes on and on and does mysterious things, but there is also something psychological in there, or an unknown story unfolding...Paul Barlow creates his works through a multi-layered process using acrylic paints, thinly applying them, revealing or removing images with a brush dipped in water. In this unpredictable technique, Barlow watches the painting as it develops on its own, spreading across the canvas like the weave of the fabric itself. His paintings often evoke the essence of images that capture fleeting moments or enigmatic forms, existing in the realm between recognition and uncertainty.
Barlow once wanted to use the title ".•.•" to indicate the starting point of a painting. The titles of his paintings, represented by sequences of bullet points and periods, are meticulously rearranged horizontally in order, despite their complexity.
Barlow's paintings capture a seamless progression, a metamorphosis, and a flow of interconnectedness, embodying the essence of various natural phenomena; the interference of light waves, fractals and halos, or the fluid interplay within the cosmos. As these interactions unfold, their complexity and length evolve, delving into the subtleties and intricacies of transitional states, encapsulating the essence of progression and mutation.
This symbolizes the paintings' sprouting and metamorphosis from their genesis. 나는 작업을 바라볼 때 종종 “snippets”(발췌)나 “bits”(조금)처럼 어떤 전체의 일부가 그 자체로 전체 같다.
마치 자연 안에서의 프렉탈 도형처럼.

.•.•.•.•.•.•각 작업들은 “.”과 “•”로 이루어져 있으며 성장하듯 변형되고 바깥쪽으로 점점 더 복잡하게 길어진다.
물질적으로 나는 그림이 매우 특별하고 놀라운 것으로 밀려들어가는 과정에 대해 생각한다,
이 생각은 마치 그림의 물질성이 “초유체”에 밀려들어가는 것처럼 신비한 것들을 행하지만, 그 안에는 심리적인 것도 있다.
아니면 알려지지 않은 이야기가 펼쳐지거나…폴 바로우의 그림은 희석된 아크릴 물감을 얇게 겹겹이 칠하여 수많은 레이어를 만들고 물에 적신 브러시를 통해서 이미지를 나타내거나 제거하는 과정을 통해 만들어진다.
이러한 불안정한 통제 속에서 바로우는 그림을 내버려두고 그림은 캔버스 직조 내에서 퍼지면서 스스로 자라난다. 인식과 불확실성 사이의 공간에 존재하는 어떤 순간, 혹은 유기체들의 과학적 이미지의 특징을 상기시키기도 한다.작가는 작업과 전시에 제목을 붙일 때 염두에 둔 개념이 있다. 시작점을 나타내는 작업에 “.•”를 이용해서 제목을 만들길 원했다.
글머리 기호와 마침표로 이름 붙여진 그림들은 복잡해 보이면서도 하나의 질서를 지닌 채 수평으로 재정렬되었다.
고요하지만 격렬한 뒤척임 속에서 연못과 나뭇잎, 우주의 어떤 흐름과 폭팔처럼 느껴지는 이미지들은 한 단계에서 다음 단계로의 진행과 움직임을 나타내고 그림들 내 전환과 진화의 개념을 포착한다.
상호작용으로 형성된 진행은 더 길고 복잡해지며 한 단계에서 다음 단계로 넘어가는 상태, 무언가가 그다음으로 넘어가는 그 시기인 을 탐구한다.
이는 그림이 그 시작점으로부터 성장하고 변화하는 것을 상징한다. 그리고 이 불확실한 순간에 진입하는 순간을 상상할 수도 있다.
