"In my work, 'water' always connects forms; it has been a pathway for changing imagination and understanding the world. Amidst the vast ocean filled with sublime information, flooded with countless textsand images that bridge between reality and virtual reality, I stand on two feet with a heavy head dropped to the ground, burdened by complex inputs that I still cannot solve, and while feeling the 'water' flowing along the circulation of my body."

From the artist’s note

Humankind, as well as all living organisms, including plants and animals, have maintained a life of sleep and rest by stopping activities according to ‘day’ or ‘night’. In this way, the biological rhythm, which is a 24-hour cycle, applies not only to humans but also to the nature. 
In the year the pandemic began, we experienced spatial and temporal ‘jet lag’. Daily life and communication with the outside was stopped. Time went by as we were forcibly isolated in a familiar space, and we observed the sudden change in our situation. This exhibition begins with the ideological landscape of artificial nature that Park usually contemplates in her studio, along with artificial communication patterns such as speech balloons. 
At the time, Park observed gifted hydrangeas and used them as the subject of a self-portrait. Park reflected on this to form the mechanism of human thinking by exploring the boundary of the figurative and abstract. This adaptable plant, which changes depending on its surroundings indoors or outdoors, shows its unique aesthetic and how its appearance transforms conditioned upon ‘water’ absorbed from the soil. She observes and expresses how the spectrum of colour is perceived through the attribute of ‘water’. 
This exhibition 'Jetlag' shows the current uncanny transition from a pandemic to an endemic situation by depicting the feeling of jet lag between day and night, remembered like a dream, and evoking the unfamiliar yet strangely familiar impression of hydrangeas. 
Junghae Park has found her own visual symbols within the structure of trivial objects such as ribbon or colored paper. Her collection of unique colors and forms are expressed on canvas as geometrical abstraction reminiscent of a surrealistic landscape.

“나의 작업에서 언제나 ‘물’은 형상을 연결하고, 변화하게 하는 상상의 경로이자 세계를 이해하는 인식의 경로이다. 현실과 가상의 현실을 매개하는 수많은 텍스트와 이미지가 범람하는 이 숭고한 정보의 바다에서, 몸의 혈류를 따라 흐르는 ‘물’을 감각하며, 나는 여전히 풀 수 없는 복잡한 입력 값으로, 무거워진 머리를 바닥에 떨군 채 두 발로 서있다.”

인류는 물론 동식물 포함한 모든 생명체들은 ‘낮’과 ‘밤’에 따라 활동을 중지하고 수면 및 휴식을 취하는 생활을 유지해왔다.

이렇듯 24시간을 주기로 돌아가는 생체리듬은 사람뿐 아니라 자연에게도 적용된다.
팬데믹이 시작된 그 해, 우리는 시공간적인 시차를 경험했다. 일상이 중단되고, 외부와의 소통이 단절되었다. 강제적으로 익숙한 공간에 고립되어 시간이 흐르고, 급작스럽게 변한 상황을 바라보았다. 그리고 전시는 평소 작가의 스튜디오에서 그가 떠올린 인공 자연에 관한 관념적인 풍경과 말풍선과 같은 인위적인 소통의 패턴에서 시작된다.
그 시기, 작가는 우연히 선물 받은 수국을 유쾌하게 관찰하였고, 수국이란 대상을 자화상 삼아, 인간의 생각이 형성되는 메커니즘을 구상과 추상의 경계에서 작업으로 형상화하였다. 실외의 가로수 사이에서, 실내에서 주변 환경에 따라 변화하는 이 변덕스런운 식물은 토양에서 흡수한 물을 통해 자신의 모습을 변화시키는 독특한 미학을 보여주었고, 작가는 이를 통해 색의 스펙트럼이 ‘물’이라는 속성을 통해 어떻게 지각되는지를 관찰하고 표현한다.

이번 전시 는 팬데믹에서 앤데믹으로 상황이 전환된 현시점에서 작가가 마치 꿈처럼 기억하는 낮밤의 시차, 수국에 관한 인상을 낯설지만, 생경하게나마 현재에서 되짚는다.
